DEPARTMENT OF SOIL SCIENCE AND ENVIRONMENT

Philosophy

Production of graduates that are adequately equipped with the comprehensive theoretical knowledge, practical skills required for engaging in economic and agricultural production.

Objectives

(i) To produce graduate farmers geared towards self-employment;
(ii) To produce graduates with sufficient technical, productive, and Entrepreneurship skills who will be involved in productive research And entrepreneurship in any aspect of agriculture and other related disciplines.
(iii) To produce graduates that are relevant to themselves, the industry And the society and who can contribute effectively to national development goals in agriculture and related fields.

Admission Requirements

UTME:

In addition to meeting the entry requirements in the UME as stipulated in the JAMB brochure, a candidate seeking admission To a degree programme in soil Science of Imo State University must Posses in English, Chemistry, Biology or Agriculture, Mathematics, and at least pass in Biology is required where Agric. Science is chosen.

Direct Entry:

For direct entry admission, candidates must have two or more papers at the principal level in the Higher School Certificate or equivalent pass in GCE Advanced level in relevant subjects. Holder of NCE and National Diploma in Agriculture or related disciplines with no less than upper credit pass level and with 5 credits WASC/GCE `O Level may be admitted into the 200 level of five years degree programme. Holders of OND with upper credit pass may be admitted into the 300level of the undergraduate programme, subject to the possession of minimum UME entry requirements.
