DEPARTMENT OF MANAGEMENT

Introduction

The Bachelor of Science degree programme in Management in the Faculty of Business Administration, Imo State University, Owerri, was established in 1995. A key part of the mission of the management discipline in Imo State University is the continuous creation, articulation, inculcation and dissemination of sound and relevant knowledge about management and organizations in dynamic environment.

Department sees management from the board perspective of encompassing all processes, structures and behaviours that are related to work of organizations, as well as the dynamics of industries, economies, cultures, and other environmental forces that effect organizations and their employees. A major objective of our degree programme is to educate and train, sound, ethically conscious, broad based managers equipped with relevant skills and knowledge that would enable them manage any given organization, effectively and efficiently. The need for sound management knowledge and application is increasingly becoming a need for all types of organizations, both profit and non-profit, formal and informal. The success or failure of organizations depends largely on the quality of the management. It would be disadvantageous for any organization to use a management team that is not made up of qualified management personnel capable of adopting and edge management techniques. The department of management therefore strives to produce effective and efficient managers for all types of organizations, that would contribute to national development and growth, since the quality, competitiveness, image and dynamism of a country does not really depend on Her mineral wealth and resources but on the skills needed to manage them.
