ADMISSION OF CANDIDATES 2009/2010 ACEDEMICS SESSION

Applications are hereby invited from qualified candidates for admission in the 2009/2010 Academic Session to the various Degree and Diploma Programmes of the Institute for Continuing Education Programmes (ICEP), Imo State University, Owerri, Degree Programmes leading to the award of B.Sc., B.Ed and Diploma Programmes are offered in the following

2. B.Sc. Banking and Finance
3. B.Sc. Management
4. B.Sc. Economic
5. B.Sc. Marketing
6. B.Sc. Government and Public Administration
7. B.Sc. Sociology
8. B.Sc. Mass Communication
9. B.Sc. Psychology
10. B.Sc. Library & Information Science
11. B.Sc. Education/Accountancy, Education/Economic, Education/Maths, Education/Library Science
12. B.A. English/Literary Studies
13. B.A.Education/History, Education/French, Education/Religion, Education/Government, Education/Social Studies
14. B.A. History & International Studies
15. B.Ed Foundation of Education, Management and Planning Education, Guidance and Counseling. The three disciplines in Education must offer one or more special teaching subjects from the following pool of subject areas: Maths, Computer Science, Health Science, Fine Arts, Religion, History, English, Government, Economics, Accountancy, Social Studies, Igbo etc)
16. Diploma Programme in Law

DURATION
All Bachelor Degree courses will run for 5 years. The Diploma in Law will run for 2 years. However, students with higher relevant qualifications recognized by Imo State University at the point of admission and those of Direct Entry will be required to run programme for 3 years.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
All candidates seeking admission into any of the degree programmes of the institute listed above must have attained the age of 25 years at the time of admission. In addition, they must posses 5 credits in relevant area: as required by the discipline.

1. Government and Public Administration must have – five credit level passes including English Language, History or Government and least a pass in Maths.
2. Education/Mathematics: A credit level pass in Mathematics and Physics at  ordinary level with P7 in English Language is a pre-requisite. For all post-NCE, Degree Programmes: NCE with at least passes in the various areas including the subject to be combined with Education (a minimum  of 6 points system) is required. This however excludes points from Teaching Practice.
3. Diploma in Law: 4 credits must include English Language, English Literature, History or Government and any others with at least a pass in Mathematics/Science subject.

MODE OF STUDIES
Except for Diploma in Law which will run during the weekdays, the rest of the Institute’s degree programme will be run under the Distance Education Learning mode – weekend tutorial lectures as well as a comprehensive package of module that will facilitate distance learning. The programmes by their design will enable the students to acquire his/her degree/diploma while continuing to meet his/her other responsibilities at work and at home.
